MODEL 1849 POCKET COLT WITH MISMATCHED NUMBERS

$795.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 967-04

This pocket Colt is serial number 199469 and matches throughout except for the cylinder which is number 196333. These numbers show that the cylinder was produced in 1861 and the rest of the weapon in 1862. The serial numbers fall in such a way that the cylinder was made at the end of 1861 and the frame etc.… was made in early 1862. The weapon is in overall good condition. All surfaces have a uniform “salt and pepper” appearance with very little pitting.

The octagonal barrel meas. approx. 6.00 inches long with a good readable stamping in one line “ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U. S. AMERICA.” Front bead sight is present.  Bore is .31 and is fair with some spots of dirt and minor pitting.

The 6-shot cylinder has all of the original nipples which show wear and 98% of the cylinder scene is present. Action is sloppy. Cylinder is tight at full-cock. Frame has a good “COLT’S PATENT” stamping in two lines on the left side. Frame screws are good. Loading lever keeper is a brass replacement. Wedge pin is a loose fit causing some wiggle in the barrel.

Triggerguard and grip frames show some silver finish. Perhaps 10%. Wood grips show wear to surface finish.  [ad]
