Manufactured c. late 1850s/early 1860s. Total quantity about 33,000. Second model, 6 shot, .36 caliber percussion revolver, w/7.5” octagonal barrel, two piece walnut grips, “Colt Style” lever latch, and cylinder scene of the Eagle, Shield and Lion. Barrel marking: “E. Whitney/ New Haven”. Government inspector cartouche stamp present on lower left grip: sub-inspector “B” (5) markings on frame, cyclinder and brass trigger guard—all crisply visible. Barrel and frame exhibit smooth, consistent, medium gray patina. Grips display light wear. Cylinder indexing action crisp, bore somewhat dusty. Else VG and handsome. Solid martially marked CW Whitney.  [jp]
