EARLY FOUR-SCREW COLT M1860 ARMY REVOLVER

$1,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-441

This sidearm is a .44 caliber, four-screw Colt Army revolver with a 6-shot rebated cylinder that retains 50% of the cylinder scene and all original nipples. Stop pins are worn down. All the metal surfaces are a dark chocolate brown with scattered spots of oxidation making the cylinder scene difficult to see. Round barrel is 8.00” long with a strong stamp of “- ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. -” Muzzle has a lot of wear and there is a 0.75 inch crack running from the muzzle edge back along the side of the front sight. Bore is dirty and looks to have some small amounts of pitting. Rifling is good.

Grips are original one-piece black walnut in good condition. Left side has a faint cartouche. There is also some minor wear to edges. Sidearm has matching serial numbers of 8028 on all major components including the wedge showing weapon was produced in the 1st or 2nd quarter of 1861.

Weapon is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the backstrap indicating a martial arm. Revolver mechanics are excellent, crisp and tight. “COLTS / PATENT” stamped on the left side of the frame is worn. Frame screws show light wear.

An early Colt Model 1860 Army revolver and a nice representative sidearm of the Civil War.  [ad]
