MISMATCHED COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER MADE IN LATE 1862

$1,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-444

This Colt Model 1860 Army is serial #78260 and was produced in late 1862. The serial number matches except for the wedge which bears #7463. All metal surfaces are gray in color with moderate to heavy dark oxidation.

The round barrel measures 8.00 inches long with front sight and a good barrel marking of “ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA.“ The marking is partially obscured by mottling and light surface pitting. The loading lever is complete with catch and operates properly. The bore has good rifling but it has light dirt and needs cleaning.

The 6-shot cylinder retains about 95% of the cylinder scene and has all the original nipples in good condition. Each of the stops is worn. Action is mechanically perfect and indexes properly. The surface of the cylinder has darkened some by age and oxidation but the scene is visible.

The frame has three screws and is clearly marked “COLT’S PATENT” in two lines below the cylinder. The word “COLT” is very worn and almost invisible. All three screw heads on the frame show wear. The frame has no pitting and matches the rest of the weapon in color.

Walnut grips have light to moderate wear, mostly on the edges. The bottom of each grip has had a carefully carved square cut into it for the purpose of passing a lanyard around the base of the grip frame. Each side has a faint military inspector’s cartouche.  [AD]
