MISMATCHED COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER MADE IN LATE 1862

$1,850.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-438

This Colt Model 1860 Army is serial #65940 and was produced in late 1862. The serial number matches except for the cylinder which bears #4940 and the wedge pin which is blank. All metal surfaces are gray in color with moderate to heavy dark oxidation. Frame shows some hint of case colors.

The round barrel measures just under 8.00 inches long with front sight and a strong barrel marking of “ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA.“  The loading lever is complete with catch and operates properly. The barrel and loading lever have no pitting but there are some vice marks. The bore has very good rifling but is dirty and needs cleaned. There may be some pitting beneath the dirt.

The 6-shot cylinder retains about 98% of the cylinder scene and has all the original nipples in good condition. Each of the stops is worn. Action is mechanically perfect and indexes properly. The surface of the cylinder has darkened some by age and oxidation but the scene is very clear. Though the cylinder does not match by serial number it has aged with the weapon and matches the rest of the surfaces.

The frame has three screws and is clearly marked “COLT’S PATENT” in two lines below the cylinder. The word “PATENT” is worn. Two of the three screw heads on the frame are good but one does show wear. The frame has no pitting and matches the rest of the weapon in color.

Walnut grips have light wear with a good military inspector’s cartouche on the right side and a very faint one on the left.  [ad]
