This percussion sidearm is a Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good overall condition. These handguns were in production from 1860 through 1873 and were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War.

All gunmetal exhibits a dusky gray finish with scattered areas of dark oxidation overall. No original case colors or bluing remain on the weapon. Revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long round barrel. Serial #94613 matches on all parts EXCEPT the wedge which bears the number #9897. With Colts a mismatched wedge is often acceptable due to the ease with which this part could be lost when cleaning etc.… Serial number dates the manufacture to early 1863.

Barrel address reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA”. Stamping is crisp. There is a line of several small dings on the barrel surface just forward of this Stamping. Bore is dirty but may clean up. Rifling is good. Loading lever operates properly as does the catch.

Revolver is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame. Cylinder retains 100% of the scene but in some places it is faint. Cylinder indexes properly and has all original nipples in good condition with hammered down stops. Hammer stops at half-cock but does not hold. Holds at full-cock with a tight cylinder and falls properly when trigger is squeezed.

Grips are original one-piece walnut in fair to good condition with minor scratches and dings. Bottom of grips shows heavier wear. Right side of grip has a very faint military inspector’s cartouche. Bottom of grip strap has a small notch indicating a martial arm. “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame is good. Sub-inspector stampings visible on various parts. Original frame screws are in good condition with only light wear.
