Jean Alexandre Francois LeMat was born in France, came to the US in the 1840s and established himself in New Orleans. LeMat devised and created a new revolver used by many Confederate cavalry officers. The first LeMat models were produced in Philadelphia, but due to the Civil War production was moved to France. The original Le Mat revolver was a 9 shot .41 cal. revolver with an additional 20-gauge shot barrel. As many as 3000 were brought into the Confederacy.

Offered here is a quality reproduction of one of these most fearsome revolvers used in the Civil War. The Le Mat has been perfectly re-created by the Pietta company for collectors and historians. This gun is the cavalry model with spur trigger guard and a lanyard ring. All bluing and case colors remain. This reproduction fires a .44 caliber bullet and has the 20-gauge smoothbore.  Grips are checkered walnut.

Condition is excellent. Priced to sell.  [jet]
