MODEL 1849 COLT POCKET REVOLVER MANUFACTURED IN 1860

$975.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 831-20

Presented here is a classic Colt cap and ball revolver commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model. This personal sidearm, in very good original condition overall, features a 6” long, octagonal barrel matched to a .31 caliber, six-shot cylinder that has a roll pressed design retaining much of the “stagecoach holdup” scene. Original nipples. Safety pins are mostly hammered down. All serial numbers (179082) match, including wedge. Number indicates second half of 1860 date of manufacture. “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT / HARTFORD CT.” is clearly stamped on the top facet of the barrel. The standard “COLTS / PATENT” is stamped on the left side of the frame. Screw heads are in good condition (wedge screw shows most wear).

Gun metal is dark gray with some small scratches. Revolver is mechanically sound with exception that cylinder doesn’t spin freely at half cock. Grips are of varnished, one-piece, walnut in good condition. Strong and tight, grips have minor wear along bottom edges. Back strap and the trigger guard are brass with perhaps 40% of original silver-plated wash remaining.

Known as the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873. Here is a very good example of this Colt firearm.  [jet]
