CIVIL WAR REMINGTON-BEALS NAVY MODEL REVOLVER

$1,295.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1087-04

This percussion handgun is a Civil War specimen of the Remington-Beals Navy model produced in 1861-1862. Approximately 14,500 of these percussion revolvers were produced in .36 caliber with unmarked solid frame and unrebated six-shot cylinder. Screw-on barrel is octagonal and measures 7 1/8” long with no barrel threads visible at the breech. Grips are original two-piece walnut with no government inspector cartouche and moderate wear on the bottom.

The serial number #11697 is stamped into the bottom facet of the barrel and on the grip frame.

Barrel, cylinder and frame show faint hints only of original bluing. Gunmetal wears a plumb brown overall finish with light oil residue and scattered surface pitting. Barrel markings are worn with only “N.Y.” being visible.

Bore has good rifling but is dark and dirty with some pitting.  Mortised cone front sight is present but worn.

Sidearm features a brass trigger guard, steel backstrap and the high hammer spur. Original screws show only light wear.  Action works but is a bit sloppy. Indexing is fine. Cylinder is plain with no safety notches and shows normal slight scoring along the circumference. All nipples are original.  [AD]
