Starr made about 23,000 revolvers circa 1850s-1860s. The single action replaced the Model 1858 double action because it was less expensive to manufacture. The only other revolvers that surpass the Starr in numbers sold to the government during the civil war are the Colt and Remington.
This is a .44 caliber, six shot revolver with an 6” round barrel. The serial number 13600, which is clearly stamped on the cylinder and frame. The frame markings are clear, “STARR ARMS CO., NEW YORK” on the left side and “STARR’S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856” is on the right side.
The gun metal is a uniform dark gray. The frame retains 50-60% of its original bluing. Surfaces have minor wear and scratches with a few small dings. The action is crisp and strong. Bore is clean with good rifling.
The walnut grip has a visible cartouche on each side. It also has tiny sub-inspector stampings on various parts throughout the pistol. An exceptional example of a Civil War double-action pistol. [jet]
