A stunning pair of percussion locks dueling pistols by M.L. Pattison of Dublin, Ireland. Working from 1802–1836. Each individual pistol exhibits the finest quality of European Gunsmithing of the 19th century. Originally intended as firearms for both personal protection and to settling of disputes. Judging by their present condition, this pair looks to have never been put to use in ether case.

Each pistol is stocked in a well-finished English walnut with octagon shaped barrels that are finished in a dark Faux Damascus looking surface. The lock plate, hammer and breech areas are well engraved with floral designs and the maker’s name of Pattison is engraved on the face of each lock plate. Also located on the top flats of each of the barrels are engraved the initials and last name of N.L. VADY. Possibly denoting ownership? Both smooth bore barrels measure approximately .69 or .70 caliber. The faces of the trigger guards are handsomely engraved in floral motifs and terminate in delightful Pineapple designs.

The barrels are held to their stocks by the means of two key lug pins and the ramrods are of ebony wood. Each of the rod heads is tipped in an amber horn. Also, iron-cleaning worms are attached at the terminus of each rod as well. Both lock actions are still very crisp and nipples show virtually no wear. Each pistol measures, 14” in length from butt of grip to muzzle end. Both of the stocks show some very minor surface scuffs and scratches. No wood losses to the stock area.
