Cal. 58 “Norfolk” produced by Welch, Brown and Company and made in Norfolk, CT. The lock surface is a plum brown patina with markings “U.S. / NORFOLK, and the date “1863”are visible. Crisp working lockwork. All other iron surfaces are also a plum patina with minor pitting around the nipple. No barrel marks are visible. Bore has excellent rifling and has a bright finish. The rear sight is complete and functional. Ramrod is not original. The stock is dark and in very good condition with one gouge. Cartouches are not visible on the stock. Welch and brown manufactured only 18,000 of these rifles.
