Model 1917 U.S. Magazine Rifles were manufactured by Remington Arms U.M.C.Co and Winchester Repeating Arms Co. In 1917 and 1918 they manufactured a combined total of 2,193,429.

They were 30 caliber. They have a 26 inch barrel secured with two barrel bands. Rear sight has a sliding peep aperture. Walnut stock has a hand guard running most of length of the barrel. All metal parts are dark with a blue – black finish. Serial numbered on the side of the breech. Top of breech is marked U.S. / MODEL OF 1917 / and the manufacturer.

This particular example is an original Model 1917 that has been reworked for WW2 as almost of these weapons have been.  Serial number is 88868 and the barrel is dated 1 -18 over a bomb / R.  All iron parts are parkerized. Rifling is good but the bore is dark. Very good wood. Sling appears to be for a Thompson sub-machine gun.
