Cal. 58 “Colt” produced by Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company and made in Hartford, CT. The lock surface is a nice mixed gray / brown finish. Markings “U.S. / COLT’S PT F.A. MFG CO / HARTFORD CT.” and the date “1864” are very sharp. Crisp working lock. All other iron surfaces are also a dark brown finish. Barrel marks “VP / Eagle”, “STEEL” and the date “1864”at the end of the barrel. It also has the inspector mark F.E.M. on the barrel. Bore is excellent and bright. The rear sight is complete and functional. The ramrod is original. The stock is light with normal scattered nicks and scratches. Inspector’s cartouches are located opposite the lockplate. And are crisp and sharp. Colt manufactured 100,000 of these rifles with many of them going to state contracts.
Bayonet is a Model 1855 and matches the patina of the musket.
