The .58 caliber “Whitneyville” was produced by Whitney Arms Company in New Haven, CT. The iron surfaces are a dusky gray/brown patina. Markings “Eagle” in the center and WHITNEYVILLE on the forward lock. Crisp working lock work. Barrel marked with only the inspector’s initials “G.W.Q.” and an ‘H” on the side of the barrel. The rear sight is the type with the large hole and is complete and functional. All metal is a plum brown patina.  The ramrod is original with the brass tip.  The bore is dark with some pitting but the rifling is deep. The light walnut stock has some nicks and scratches from normal use and handling and the stock does have two small ½ inch circles on the right side of the stock. 15,000 “Whitneyville’s” were manufactured during the Civil War.
