Item Code: G3303

This original longarm is a Harper’s Ferry Model 1842, .69 caliber single-shot smoothbore muzzleloader in very good original condition. Musket’s lock surface is a pleasing dusky gray color that exhibits a smooth surface. Lock markings are the standard “spreadwinged Eagle / small US” forward of the hammer and “HARPERS / FERRY / 1845” in a stacked, three-line arrangement back of the hammer. Light rust pitting around the bolster area. Mechanics are strong and crisp. Barrel surface has been lightly cleaned and wears a pleasing, light gray patina with a mild sheen. Proofmarks “V / P/ Eaglehead” are clear on the barrel breech as is the date “1845” stamped on the barrel tang. Barrel also exhibits the small Harper’s Ferry mark “A R / P” forward of the proofmarks. Musket also retains its brass blade sight on the upper barrel band and no rear sight as normal. Lockplate screws not buggered up. Bore is clean but does exhibit scattered areas of light rust pitting that should clean to semi-bright. All the other iron components are consistent in patina and color. Two government cartouches are worn but visible on the stock flat. A clear “US” is stamped onto the butt plate tang. Black walnut stock is in very good original condition and exhibits some normal light dings and scuffmarks. Musket retains its original ‘trumpet’ type steel ramrod with its threaded tip intact. A seldom seen, outstanding M1842 Harper’s Ferry smoothbore musket dated 1845 that would enhance any longarm collection.
