Dated on lock 1828. Original flint. Lockplate marked with small eagle over a small “US” forward of hammer. Rear of lockplate marked “HARPERS / FERRY/ 1828”. Very fine condition overall. Wonderful walnut stock with “A.B.” inside oval cartouche. Barrel with VP and eagle at breech. Round .69 cal. barrel secured with two barrel bands with springs and a combination front strap nose cone.
All metal smooth nice plum patina. Correct brass flashpan. Mechanically perfect. Original ramrod. Complete with a nicely fitting original bayonet marked “US / AW” at blade base. Smoothbore would clean nicely.
An overall nice Harpers Ferry Model 1816 in its original configuration. [ss]
