$3,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 142-23

Weapon is in overall very clean condition with very nice wood.

The barrel is mostly bright and free of pitting. The area around the breech has some light mottling. The front sight is present at the muzzle and the blued rear sight has the two flip up leaves. Left flat of the breech is strongly stamped with “VP” and eaglehead. Top of barrel in this area is strongly stamped “1863.” The eagle on the bolster is good. Nipple is clean and in good condition. Bore is bright with good rifling but does have a dusting of dirt throughout. All three barrel bands have screws in base and are blued with 95% of the blue remaining.

The lockplate retains its case colors with a strong stamping of a spreadwinged eagle and “US” over “SPRINGFIELD” forward of the hammer while behind it is “1863.” Action is crisp. Lockplate screws and hammer screw are very good.

The wood stock retains much of the original crispness along the lines and contours. The flat opposite the lock has one very strong inspector’s cartouche. Iron buttplate has worn “US” on tang. Both sling swivels are present. There are some minor dings and dents from age and storage. The only visible crack is running forward from the front of the lock for approx. 1.00 inch.

The original straight shanked tulip head ramrod is present and complete with threaded tip.

A very attractive weapon in excellent condition.   [ad]
