Nice untouched Harper’s Ferry Arsenal 2nd production type of the M1819 Hall’s Flintlock Rifle altered to percussion when the arsenal’s rifle production focused on the later Model 1841.
Single shot breechloading firearm measures 52 ¾” long with a round barrel. Chambered for a .52 caliber round breechloading firearm with a breech block that pivots upward for loading. Marked on breech block, “J. HALL / H. FERRY / US/ 1832.” Letter “U” is a little faint, rest of marking fine. Open plain notch rear sight sits atop of breech. Sans the front blade sight. Barrel bore with sixteen lands and grooves, very sharp. Semi-gray with very minor areas of light pitting, would clean to semi-bright.
Black walnut stock is 49 ¾” long and is in good condition overall. Has minor dings and dents due to age and use. More wear to wood around the iron buttplate. “U” shaped cracked behind breech, typically seen on Hall firearms. Entire stock exhibits a dark, pleasing patina, varnished many years ago. Mechanics perfect. All metal parts with nice smooth surface and pleasing patina. All parts original to the firearm. Original ramrod matches gun’s condition.
Nice example of a Hall Rifle converted to percussion. [ws]
