MODEL 1892 KRAG ALTERED TO 1896 STYLE

$1,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 362-792

This weapon started life as a Model 1892 Krag rifle and was later modified to 1896 standards. This rifle retains its original receiver markings but the cleaning rod has been removed and its channel wood filled. Upper band replaced with a double band, butt has compartment for cleaning rod, it also has the 1896 style sight and a longer hand guard.

Barrel retains much of its original blue and is turning a plumb color. Front blade sight sits just forward of the double front barrel band. Band has stacking swivel and bayonet lug attached. The 1896 style rear sight with flip up leaf also allows for elevation without having to lift the leaf. In addition to the double front band the barrel is also held in place by a single barrel band forward of the receiver. This band is stamped with a horizontal “U” and holds the forward sling swivel.

Receiver also has a good bit of original finish and the left side is stamped “US” over “1894 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY” and serial number 12353. Bolt and magazine operate perfectly as does safety. Both bolt and magazine are in excellent condition as is the bore.

Wood stock is dark and appears untouched. Wood has the usual small dings and scratches from age use and storage. There are no visible cartouche marks. Second sling swivel is mounted on underside of butt.

Very attractive clean weapon.  [ad]
