SPECIAL MODEL 1861 BY L.G. & Y. DATED 1864

$2,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3654

The LG&Y musket was a product of the firm of E.G. Lamson, A. F. Goodnow, and B. B. Yale with forging facilities at Windsor, Vermont and machine shops in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. This LG&Y longarm was produced by the firm during the years 1862 thru 1864.

The barrel of this weapon has been cleaned and is therefore bright. There is light pinprick pitting scattered over the breech area and a little forward. The front sight is present at the muzzle. Rear sight has both blued flip up leaves. The left flat of the breech has a good stamp of “VP” and an eaglehead while the top of the breech is clearly stamped “1863.” The eagle on the bolster is strong. Nipple shows light wear. Bore is excellent. It is very clean with good rifling.

The lockplate matches the rest of the iron on the weapon with a cleaned surface that shows light buffing marks. Lock has a weak stamping “US” over “L.G. & Y.” over a very weak “WINDSOR, VT.” forward of the hammer with a good “1864” stamped behind it. There is no spread-winged eagle which is correct for the 1864 lock. Action is crisp and works properly. Lockplate screws and hammer screw are excellent.

The wood stock is in overall excellent condition. The flat opposite the lock shows a strong cartouche. There are some minor dings and dents from age and storage but no cracks. Wood lines are strong.

The iron buttplate, triggerguard and barrel bands match the barrel surface. The buttplate has a good “US” stamped on the tang while each band has a good “U” stamping. The “U” on the second band is stamped very low almost at the bottom of the band. The bands are held in place by screws which is correct.  Both sling swivels are present.

Ramrod is original with the correct straight shanked tulip head and threaded tip.  [ad]
