.45-70 cal. single shot breechloading trapdoor rifle. Serial number 211285.  Barrel is approximately 33” long. Breech (near tang) is stamped with serial number, receiver stamped “US / MODEL / 1884”, left side of barrel stamped with proofs and eagle head. Blade sight at muzzle and flip-up long range sight, with windage adjustments, at breech end. Clean bore with good rifling. Clean lock plate stamped lightly with eagle and “US / SPRINGFIELD”.  Action is strong. Original cleaning rod. All gun metal retains majority of original blue. Butt plate is stamped “US”.  Stock is likewise in good condition with only minor dings and scratches associated with age and storage. Large cartouche with initials and date (1889) on left side of stock. All screw heads in fine condition. Overall, an excellent condition weapon.   [jet]
