.45-70 cal. single shot breechloading trapdoor rifle. Serial number 486727.  Barrel is approximately 33” long. Breech (near tang) is stamped with serial number, receiver stamped “US / MODEL / 1884”, left side of barrel stamped with proofs and eagle head. Blade sight at muzzle and flip-up long range sight, with windage adjustments, at breech end. Clean bore with good rifling. Clean lock plate stamped with eagle and “US / SPRINGFIELD”.  Action is strong. Original cleaning rod. All gun metal retains much of original blue with spotty light surface wear. Butt plate shows hardest wear. Barrel has turned a nice plum color.  Stock is likewise in good condition with only minor dings and scratches associated with age and storage. Large cartouche with initials and date on left side of stock. All screw heads in fine condition. Overall, an very fine condition weapon.   [jet]
