HALL’S M1819 HARPERS FERRY PERCUSSION RIFLE

$2,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 482-387

This single-shot breechloading longarm measures 52¾” long with a 32 5/8” long round barrel. Chambered for a .52 caliber round, breechblock pivots upward for loading and is released via a lever device (a.k.a. fishtail) that protrudes from the bottom of the stock forward of the trigger. All iron mountings and the barrel retains much of its original factory acid-browning which was protected by a lacquer coating that gives a pleasing, smooth hard finish overall. Barrel has a small front sight that doubles for the angular bayonet. Open plain notch rear sight sits atop the receiver surface behind the upper barrel band. Both sights are offset to the left. Barrel bore is deeply rifled with sixteen lands and grooves set in a clockwise direction. Rifling is clean.

Breechblock retains some case colors on its sides. Top flat of breechblock matches barrel in color and is faintly stamped with “J. H. HALL / H. FERRY / US / 183-.” Black walnut full-length stock is 49¾” long and is in very good overall condition. Has very few dings and dents and crisp lines. No cartouche visible. Entire stock exhibits a dark, pleasing patina. The 8 1/8” long, iron triggerguard plate has the characteristic ‘pistol grip’ set to the rear of the guard bow. An iron sling swivel is attached to the bow of the triggerguard with a second swivel attached to the middle barrel band. Double-branched upper band also holds the steel, convex button-head ramrod. Barrel is secured to the stock via three-barrel bands each using a pin fastener. No band springs. Mechanics crisp.

A museum quality example.  [ad]
