Original Danish “rolling block” rifle. These rifles employed an interlocking system of hammer and breech that was deemed one of the strongest actions of its time. About 30,000 of these rolling block rifles were made at the Danish Arsenal at Copenhagen 1870-1908, under license from Remington.

Chambered for a rimfire 11.7 x 41.5 mm round, the rifle exhibits the large action with a high spur hammer and a projecting ear-like lever on the right side of breech block. The 34” round barrel is secured to the walnut stock via three barrel bands with barrel retaining springs. A long-range, full folding rear sight rests atop the barrel breech. Serial number “45369” and a crown are stamped on the left facet of the breech. A small crown is stamped on top of the barrel between the rear sight and the breech, this may indicate an 1896 chamber conversion to 11.5 mm smokeless cartridges. Bore is clean with good rifling. Bayonet lug on right side at muzzle is for saber type bayonet. The receiver is marked on left side with a crown and cypher over “M-1867”. The name of the Dutch arsenal, “Kjobenhavns toihuus” and “1874” date are stamped on tang behind hammer. Many of the individual metal parts retain a small crown stamp. All gunmetal shows matching light gray patina. Mechanics are strong. Rifle has complete rear sight, both swivels and the original ramrod.

Stock shows moderate dings, dents and scrapes from age and use. Stock is solid with no cracks.
