.45-70 cal. single shot breechloading trapdoor rifle. Serial number 280925.  Barrel is approximately 29” long. Breech (near tang) is stamped with serial number, receiver stamped “US / MODEL / 1873”, left side of barrel stamped with proofs and eagle head. Blade sight at muzzle and flip-up long range sight, with windage adjustments, at breech end. Clean bore with weak rifling. Clean lock plate stamped lightly with eagle and “US / SPRINGFIELD / 1873”.  Action is strong. Original cleaning rod. All gun metal retains majority of original blue. Butt plate is stamped “US”.  Stock is likewise in good condition with dings and scrapes associated with age and storage. Large cartouche with initials and date on left side of stock as well a name, “GOLDSTIEN”. All screw heads in fine condition. Overall, a very good weapon.  [jet]
