$1,695.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 998-116

Original Remington military longarm produced circa 1867-1888 with the unique ‘rolling block’ configuration and action. The ‘rolling block’ rifle, aka the Model 1871 Springfield, employed an interlocking system of hammer and breech that was deemed one of the strongest actions of its time.

Chambered for a centerfire .50-70 cartridge, the rifle exhibits a high spur hammer and a projecting ear-like lever on the right side of breech block. The 36” round barrel is secured to the full black walnut stock via two barrel bands with barrel retaining springs. A long-range, folding rear sight rests atop the barrel breech. Bore is bright with strong rifling. All gun metal is bright and smooth. The barrel and butt plate exhibit scattered, light gray spotting. Receiver is strongly stamped on left side “MODEL 1871”.  “[Eagle] / U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1872” is deeply stamped on the right side. Lightly stamped on the receiver tang is the Remington patent information and dates. Mechanically strong and crisp.

Stock is in likewise beautiful condition. Original deep, rich color and finish. Shows a few dings. Stock is in excellent condition. A crisp government cartouche is found on the left flat. “1 F 6” is stamped on the underside of the wrist behind the trigger guard tang.

This is a beautiful specimen of the Model 1871 Rolling block Army Rifle.  [jet]
