Manufactured by the Providence Tool Company in Providence, RI, with a quantity of 70,000 produced between 1862 and 1865. Lockplate markings, “U/Eagle motif/S/Providence Tool Co/Providence R.I.” and the date “1864” to the rear of lockplate. All stampings sharp and crisp! Barrel proofs “VP/Eagle” and “1864” on breech also sharp and crisp. Lockplae has a nice, smooth surface recently lightly cleaned of grease, along with hammer. Barrel has not been cleaned of the dry grease. Nice smooth surface underneath. All three barrel bands correct and untouched. Correct ramrod, also untouched. Above the threads, approx. 1” long flat sides were made with 8 grooves added, possibly for cleaning the bore. Rifling very strong, would clean to bright, no rust or pitting. Buttplate trigger guard untouched with smooth surfaces. Mechanically perfect. Walnut wood stock has two cartouches, sharp and crisp. Another stamp, “REM”, noted, possibly the owner. Wood stock has minor dings otherwise sharp edges around lock and cheek side.

Overall a nice untouched rifle musket that needs just a light cleaning.  [ws]
