MODEL 1849 AUSTRIAN RIFLED MUSKET

$995.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 998-163

This rifled weapon is the Model 1849 Austrian musket in .75 caliber.  This weapon measures 48” overall with a 33” round barrel. Barrel surface is a dark pewter color with light pitting; heavier around breech and bolster. Several inspector stamps are found on the breech side flats. The flip-up rear sight was added when the musket was rifled. At the muzzle, the blade site and a bayonet lug are mounted. The bore is dirty but with strong rifling. A nose cap/barrel band and a barrel pin secure the barrel to the stock. The single band is secured by a band spring. Sling swivels are mounted on the forestock (a period replacement) and on the trigger guard tang. The butt plate, trigger guard, side plate, and a ramrod pipe are brass and have nice dark patina. Original ramrod is threaded on lower end.  All iron parts have a dark gray patina.

Lockplate is flat with beveled edge. Austrian proof stamp behind hammer, “850” representing 1850 production date is stamped in front of hammer.  Mechanically strong and crisp.

The stock remains solid with a few of the usual dings and dents. Nice deep color and finish to the wood.   [jet]
