This original American longarm is a copy of the Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle-musket, in very good condition. Made by J.P Moore’s Sons in New York City.

Weapon measures a total length of 55” with a 39” long barrel. Barrel surface is smooth and dark. The breech and bolster area are also in good shape. Three Birmingham viewer’s marks, two “25” marks, and a set of script initials are on the left side of the barrel breech. The “25” indicates the bore is .577 caliber. The bore is clean, rifling is strong. Long range, rear sight is complete. Bayonet lug / blade sight at muzzle.

The lockplate surface is clean and smooth with date, Moore markings, and border. An eagle upon a shield (with “M” in shield) and two sear screws appear behind the hammer and “1863” is stamped in front of the hammer. Hammer bears engraved edge details. Mechanics are strong.

Has original ramrod, barrel bands, and sling swivels. Gun metal parts have a matching clean, smooth surface. All brass furniture (nose cap, trigger guard, and butt plate) exhibits a light patina.

Black walnut stock is strong with a clean surface and original finish.  The usual dings and dents are found in this stock. Stock shows none of the numerous English stampings. On the underside, behind the trigger guard tang, is one small stamp.
