Overall this weapon meas. approx. 54.75 inches long. It has an .80 caliber round barrel that meas. approx. 39.25 inches long with a dark surface finish. Barrel has no rear or front sight. There is a bayonet lug at type of the muzzle and a Laukart bayonet mechanism below it. Breech has heavy pitting around the nipple and bolster with two British proof marks forward of it. Original nipple is present but badly chipped. There are no barrel bands, barrel is held by pins in the stock. Bore is smooth, dark and dirty.

Beveled lockplate and hammer are dark to match the barrel. Behind the hammer the plate is strongly marked “TOWER” while forward of the hammer is a Queen’s crown over “VR.” Action works well. Hammer is similar to that found on the Pattern 1853 Enfield.

Walnut stock has brass buttplate, triggerguard, nose cap and ramrod pipes. There is also a rather bulbous brass lockplate screw escutcheon opposite the lock. Stock does not show any cracks and has only a small area of burnout behind the hammer on the right side of the barrel tang. Right side of the butt is stamped with a broad arrow and “BO” for Board of Ordnance. Behind the triggerguard tang the wood is also stamped twice with a crown over two letters. Visible on the flat opposite the lock is a partial mark that reads “.. &B.” Stock has not been cleaned as evidenced by small minor flecks of white paint scattered on parts of the wood surface. All brass furniture wears a very pleasing rich patina.

Button head ramrod is present as are both wide sling swivels.  [ad]
