Weapon measures a total length of 55” with a 39” long barrel. Barrel surface has some slight hints of the original blue finish but has mostly turned dark with light scattered surface rust and some pitting near the breech. Front blade sight is present as is correct leaf rear sight. Breech and bolster area show moderate pitting. Viewer’s marks are present on the left side of the barrel at breech along with the number “24” twice for .58 bore. Bore is very dark and very dirty and there is some surface rust.

The lockplate and hammer are very dark and have light surface pitting throughout. Lock markings are the standard Queen’s crown minus the “VR” back of the hammer with block letters “TOWER” and “186-” forward of the hammer. Mechanics are strong.

Black walnut stock has some minor dings, dents and scratches consistent with age. There are no visible cracks but there is an old chip in the toe just below the buttplate and a large piece of wood missing from behind the nipple and along the tang of the barrel. This chip meas. approx. 1.75 inches long by 0.50 an inch. Right side of the cheek is lightly marked with “DALY” over the number “8.” Tang of the buttplate is also marked “R. C. DALY 8.”

Lockplate screw heads are good. All three barrel bands are present as well as both sling swivels. Faint letter Queen’s crown over “8” stamped behind the triggerguard tang. Correct ramrod is present but without threaded tip. Ramrod channel shows nicks.

All brass furniture exhibits a light patina.  [AD]
