Longarm is an original M1816 musket made by Marine T. Wickham of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1813, Wickham was a government inspector of arms at a U.S. arsenal, and later was listed as a gunsmith in Maryland in the musket manufacturing business.

Musket is a .69 caliber, single shot muzzleloader that retains all its original parts in good condition. The iron lock is round at front and slightly pointed at the tail. Lockplate is dated “PHILA / 1835” behind the hammer and in front of cock “US” over “M. T. WICKHAM” in a crescent. Frizzen has proper bend at top and the pan is brass which is also correct. Hammer has flint. Action works well. All metal parts of the lock have a matching dark patina and some brown finish.

Musket has a 42” long round barrel also finished brown. It is secured to the black walnut stock by three iron bands. Barrel surface is dark and matches the lock. Breech has stampings at the left side that read “US” over “NWP” over “P” followed by “N.J.” on the left flat. The breech tang like the lock is dated 1835. Bayonet lug is present at top of muzzle. Bore is dark and dirty.

Black walnut stock is dark, uncleaned and original. Stock has one faint cartouche and shows moderate to heavy wear to include numerous small scratches and dents. The stock has a 4.25 inch closed crack on the left side running forward on an angle from the front of the escutcheon. This same area has two smaller closed cracks running parallel to the first approx. 1.00 inch apart. There is also a closed crack on the right side running forward from the front of the lock for approx. 7.75 inches. Top of wrist has a diamond shaped brass plate engraved with the number “4.”

The lower sling swivel is mounted as part of the triggerguard while the middle barrel band supports the second swivel. Forward band is double and mounts the front sight. Weapon has the original button-head ramrod with the threaded tip on the opposite end hammered almost flat.

Buttplate still retains the “US” stamping.

All screw heads show light wear.  [ad]
