HARPERS FERRY MODEL 1841 “MISSISSIPPI” RIFLE DATED 1851

$2,400.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 490-1694

The round .58 barrel retains about 90% of its brown finish with scattered pinprick surface pitting throughout. Pitting is a little heavier near the breech and the barrel tang shows some indentations from a vice or plyers. Front sight is a brass blade while the rear sight is a “V” notch. At the breech there is a faint “WW” over “P” as well as a worn faint “VP” over an eaglehead. There is no barrel date. Bore has excellent rifling and light surface dirt.

Lock has turned a dark gray with some hints of lighter spots. It has a strong eagle over a small “US” with a strong “HARPERS FERRY 1851” behind the hammer, however part of the letter “F” is worn. Action works well.

Wood stock is dark and free of cracks. There are numerous small scratches and some dings and dents. There is a small old chip forward of the lower lockplate screw. There is also an old small gouge behind the hammer, toward the rear of the barrel tang. Butt has brass patchbox which opens easily. There are no visible cartouche marks.

Triggerguard and barrel bands are of brass. Buttplate is also of brass and does not bear any markings. Triggerguard and forward band each have a sling swivel. Ramrod is full length with brass tipped tulip shaped head. All brass has the same untouched semi-dark appearance.

This weapon is a solid used example of a Harpers Ferry Mississippi rifle.
