.58 cal. single shot muzzle loader. One of the nicer examples we have had recently. Barrel is full length - 40”. Lock is marked, “US / SPRINGFIELD” forward of hammer and dated “1858” behind. Maynard tape door with excellent wingspread eagle. Mechanically perfect. Barrel is marked with correct “VP / eagle”. Barrel date at breech not visible. Some light pitting in area where date should be. All metal with nice smooth brown patina. Walnut stock also VF+ with trace remains of an inspector’s cartouche opposite the lock. Retains its original long-range rear sight. Rifling is very deep and could use a light cleaning. Overall a very nice example. [ss]
