$1,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3950

Smoothbore musket that meas. approx. 57.50 inches overall.

Round .69 barrel meas. approx. 42.00 inches long and has a surface that is semi-bright with light mottling scattered throughout. There is some light pitting and surface dirt in the area of the bolster. Barrel has bayonet lug on top of the muzzle with a brass blade front sight mounted on the rear most band of the front double barrel band. Left side of barrel at breech is stamped with a “P.” There is no barrel date. Barrel was converted to percussion by cutting the breech and screwing in a new breech and tang with nipple, a bolster and clean-out screw. Bore is fairly clean but does have minor dust and dirt.

Iron lockplate and hammer have light mottling to match the barrel. Lock has a rounded and beveled front with a point at back that is flush with the stock. Lock is stamped with a very strong spread-winged eagle over “US” with an equally good “SPRINGFIELD 1834” behind the hammer. Hammer is large with a high toe that is crosshatched on its face. Action works properly but is stiff. Brass chain and nipple protector are attached.

Walnut stock is in good condition with good lines and light signs of wear and use overall but there is some “burn out” on the wood behind the nipple. Stock has inspector’s marks to the rear of the triggerguard and there are two light inspector’s cartouches on the left side opposite the lock. Butt has some light chipping along the edge of the iron buttplate. Butt and wrist also has some scattered white paint spots but nothing major. Buttplate has strong “US” stamping on tang.

Iron bands are held in place by springs. Bands and triggerguard match the rest of the iron on the weapon. Both sling swivels are present with the lower one attached to the trigger bow with a ball shaped reinforcement.

Iron ramrod has button type head with threaded tip. Attached to the musket is a leather sling from a later period.  [ad]
