U.S. MODEL 1851 PERCUSSION CADET MUSKET DATED 1852

$2,450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-5436

The Model 1851 Cadet musket was made by the Springfield Armory between 1851-1853 with a total of around 4,000 being produced. These weapons were made in .57 caliber with a 40” round barrel. Research by Norm Flayderman shows that 2,840 muskets were produced bearing the 1852 date.

This musket has a walnut stock that is in solid condition and overall exhibits only the usual wear from use and age with the exception of the underside of butt stock. There, between the butt plate and the trigger guard tang the wood is heavily dinged, but only in that specific area. There are scattered, very fine droplets of white paint where someone obviously painted nearby with a roller.

Gun metal surfaces are dark gray with even darker patches. Lock has spread winged eagle over US forward of the hammer and “Spring / field / 1852” behind the hammer. Barrel is 40” long with blade front sight and no rear sight. The barrel also has a clear date of 1852 on the breech tang and “VP” with eagle head on left side. Bore is mostly clean and bright with minor oxidation; no rifling. Action is good. Original nipple and ramrod are present, as are both sling swivels. Bayonet lug is under barrel at muzzle.

A nice cadet musket for various states and their military schools.  [jet]
