U.S. MODEL 1851 PERCUSSION CADET RIFLED MUSKET

$2,995.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-5421

The Model 1851 Cadet musket was made by the Springfield Armory between 1851-1853 with a total of around 4,000 being produced. These weapons were made in .57 caliber with a 40” round barrel. Research by Norm Flayderman shows that records at the Springfield Armory for 1857 indicate that 341 muskets were rifled and had rear sights added. This is one of them.

Metal surfaces are bright with only small spots of mottling. Lock has spread winged eagle over US forward of the hammer and “Spring / field / 1853” behind the hammer. Barrel is 40” long with front blade sight and long-range rear sight. The barrel is dated 1852 on the breech tang with “VP” and eagle head on left side. Bore is bright and clean with only small spots of light oxidation. Rifling is good. Action is strong. Original ramrod is present (with counter-sunk head for minie balls), as are both sling swivels. Bayonet lug is under barrel at muzzle. Butt plate is stamped “US” and has a worn rack number.

This musket has a walnut stock that is in solid condition and overall exhibits only the usual wear from use and age. Retains good dark color and nice original finish.

A nice cadet musket for various states and their military schools.  [jet]
