EXCELLENT CONDITIONED MODEL 1863 SPRINGFIELD TYPE II DATED 1864

$3,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3945

Super clean Model 1863 Springfield muzzle loading, single shot, percussion musket. All surfaces have been lightly cleaned but the lines and markings are excellent.

Barrel is exceptionally clean. The only signs of pitting are in the breech area and this is slight. The rear sight retains most of its bluing and both flip-up leaves move freely. Front sight is present above the muzzle. Left flat at the breech has very crisp “VP” and eagle head. Barrel date of “1863” is also crisp. Bolster has a strong eagle with excellent details. The original nipple is present and retains its original blue. Bore is excellent. Very clean with strong rifling.

Lock and hammer retain all their original case colors. Forward of the hammer is a crisp eagle with an equally crisp “U. S.” over “SPRINGFIELD” and behind the hammer is a very sharp “1864.” Action is excellent.

Despite having been lightly gone over the wood of the stock is in excellent condition. There are several small scattered dings and dents but nothing that detracts. The left side also has a few rubbed areas but these are very small. There is one small chip approx. 2.00 inches long in the ramrod channel between the lower two bands. The wood lines along the barrel and on the raised areas of the lock and the lock screws are excellent. The flat opposite the lock has two deep, crisp inspector’s cartouches.

All three of the barrel bands are present and each bears a strong “U” stamp. The “U.S.” stamped on the tang of the buttplate is also strong. Both sling swivels are present and move freely.

Correct ramrod is present and is full length with threaded tip.

All screwheads are excellent.  [sr]
