This riker box display contains a dropped Union three ring minie ball and a dropped Confederate Gardner bullet. Also in the box is a Pattern 1839 oval “US” plate meant for wear on the outer flap of the Union soldier’s cartridge box. This plate is from the famous Rosensteel collection which formed the basis for the present Gettysburg National Military Park collection. The surface of the plate has a dark patina throughout and has been lightly coated to preserve the finish. The bottom center has a small nail hole which shows the plate was once on a relic board. The reverse is devoid of any hooks or lead fill.
