This riker box display contains a dropped Union three ring minie ball and a dropped Confederate Gardner bullet. Also in the box is a Pattern 1839 oval “US” belt plate meant for wear on the Union soldier’s waist belt from which his cap box and bayonet with scabbard was suspended. This plate is from the famous Rosensteel collection which formed the basis for the present Gettysburg National Military Park collection. The surface of the plate is dark with a rough surface finish. There is some chipping around the edges with the most severe being at top left. The reverse has the early style “puppy paw” hooks and tongue with a piece of the original leather belt still caught under the hooks.
