This bit is complete with the curb chain, both “US” rosettes and end rings. The bits surfaces are discolored with light surface rust but no pitting. One side is marked “STARBUCK BROS. TROY, N.Y.” while the opposite side has “PORT #4 Q.T.R.”
This item was recovered at Gettysburg by John Cullison who then passed it on to the Rosensteel family when it became part of that well-known collection. With the item is a collector’s note stating the history of the item.
