Item is a very nice conditioned brass powder flask with an embossed decoration on both sides. The decoration consists of a spread-winged eagle above a circle of stars that contain two hands shaking at the center of a sunburst. At bottom is a US shield at the center of panoply of flags.
The top of the flask has the brass cap and spout. The top of the cap is marked “BATTY 1851.” Both sling loops are present on the side. The body of the flask is in excellent condition with no major dings or dents. Lightly scratched into one side of the body are initials. These are not well done and hard to read. One letter appears to be a “T.”
This item was once part of the collection of a local family named Swope and was part of the museum that once stood in Gettysburg’s Longstreet Park Museum near the site of General Longstreet’s headquarters.
