Circa 1890’s cabinet card photograph of the monument to Vermont’s Company F, 1st U.S. Sharpshooters in Pitzer’s Woods at Gettysburg. The card meas. approx. 5.25 inches wide x 8.50 inches long. The photo shows a gleaming white marble monument with a triple squared telescopic base and a single doric column surmounted by spread-winged eagle with open beak screeching in the direction of the enemy. The image is clean with excellent contrast. Image is mounted on a green card that has “W. H. TIPTON THE BATTLEFIELD PHOTOGRAPHER GETTYSBURG, PA.” in gold lettering on the base. Reverse is blank.

The monument was dedicated on July 15, 1889 to commemorate the action in Pitzer’s Woods between the Sharpshooters and advancing elements of James Longstreet’s Corps on the early afternoon of July 2, 1863.
