RELIC PATTERN 1826 EAGLE BREAST PLATE RECOVERED FROM GETTYSBURG

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: R20192

This excavated relic of a Federal regulation M1826 eagle breast plate was recovered from an unknown location on the battlefield of Gettysburg. The circular plate is complete and intact with its full backing of lead and two, original iron hooks still secure and not broken. Relic surface has acquired a dark brown patina. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face has a spread-winged eagle looking to his left while holding three arrows in this right talon and an olive branch in his left. Detail remains high with normal wear. Lead backing does not show any erosion. Plate measures a diameter of 2½” and is very good excavated condition with just slight border edge dents. An interesting artifact from the Battle of Gettysburg.
