This striking, one-piece, brass belt plate is referred to as a militia panel plate that was once part of the famed Rosensteel Museum Collection of Gettysburg. The rectangular, die-struck rolled brass waist belt plate measures 57mm x 85mm and is ca. 1850 to 1865. Plate retains the narrow belt loop, and the applied brass tongue that has separated from the backside. Original tongue comes with the plate. In the 1850s, the Philadelphia firm of Horstmann and Company advertised a very similar pattern plate made at their own machine shop. The detail and quality of this piece is excellent compared to later post-war versions. Museum accession number on back.
