Image is mounted on yellow stock. One edge is marked “ARTISTIC STEREO GEMS OF GETTYSBURG SCENERY” and the other states that the image is by W. H. Tipton.
The view was taken looking west from East Cemetery Hill. The Baltimore Pike runs between the fences with the gatehouse to the Evergreen Cemetery on the far side of the road. This area saw a lot of action. It was the rally point for the shattered Union forces on the 1st Day and the gatehouse was used by Gen. Howard as a headquarters. Also, the Confederate attack on the evening of July 2nd crashed into the Union lines just behind the camera position. Visible in the immediate foreground are several artillery emplacements.
The view number and caption are very light. The number looks to be 563 or 565 and the caption reads “GATEWAY OF EVERGREEN CEMETERY-RIFLE PITS IN FOREGROUND.” Contrast is a little light but the clarity is good.
Reverse is blank.
