PATTERN 1839 OVAL US “PUPPY PAW” BELT PLATE RECOVERED AT GETTYSBURG

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 173-1459

The face of this belt plate is in very nice condition with a good rich brown patina. The low areas of the face along with the recesses of the border have a subdued light discoloration that helps to highlight the raised parts of the plate. The face is also free from major dings and dents; there are a few small nicks along the upper right edge.

The reverse has 100% of the lead fill that has darkened with age. Both of the “puppy-paw” style hooks and the tongue are present. The reverse shows light wear from use and age.

This item was recovered on Seminary Ridge by the late John Cullison who passed it on to the Rosensteel family where it became part of their well-known collection of Gettysburg artifacts.
