Very nice magic lantern slide showing the statue of the “Savior of Little Round Top,” Major General Gouverneur K. Warren. While serving as the Chief Engineer of the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, Warren saw the importance of Little Round Top and helped secure the hill for the Union.
The statue pictured in this slide was placed on the summit of Little Round Top in 1888 by the veterans of Warren’s first command, the 5th New York Infantry. The slide shows the entire statue with a tourist standing near it.
Slide is glass and dates from about the 1920’s. It meas. approx. 4.00 x 3.25 and is in good clean, clear condition.
