This riker box display contains a dropped Union three ring minie ball and a dropped Confederate Gardner bullet. Also in the box is a Pattern 1839 oval “US” plate meant for wear on the outer flap of the Union soldier’s cartridge box. This plate is from the famous Rosensteel collection which formed the basis of the present Gettysburg National Military Park collection. The surface of the plate is light brown with a smooth finish and numerous freeze cracks around the edges. The reverse is devoid of hooks but has 95% of the lead fill.
